SPACE BETWEEN

Vessels of pause and everyday rituals,
Shaped by silence and breath.

In this exhibition, Flora presents vessels that explore the meeting of memory and Japanese aesthetics. Teapots, cups, and tea bowls appear alongside new hybrid forms, between a jar and a bottle, each embracing imperfection. Inspired by her childhood in southwest France, where jars of preserves filled her grandmother’s shelves, Flora revisits these familiar shapes through a wabi-sabi lens, honouring everyday rituals where utility meets reverence.

Central is the Japanese concept of negative space, the Ma, what holds everything together. Ma is not emptiness, but a living pause: the breath between two movements, the silence that gives sound its shape.

Made for everyday rituals of drinking, eating, and gathering, these vessels will transform ordinary gestures into moments of stillness and encounter.

Welcome to the private view of the exhibition Space Between at the Gallery White Box
Thursday 16/10/25, from 6pm BST

All my products are handmade in my Greenwich garden studio. My glazes and slips are my own personal recipes. They are applied by either pouring, dipping or brushing. Movement is often added so that they cover the piece with various drips, transparencies and even cracks sometime. "Happy" accidents are welcomed and in my opinion, are inherent to handmade products.

Each piece is unique and when a piece is offered as a small batch or within a collection, small variations among the pieces of a same set are to be expected.
