These little wishing bells are inspired by the whimsical Japanese fūrin wind bells. Historically, fūrin were hung in summer, outside homes and temples as charms to ward off misfortune and to invite good luck. The soft chime is meant to bring a sense of quiet and presence, almost like a small moment of mindfulness.
I’ve adapted them for the winter season, to be placed on a Christmas tree or in a quiet corner of the home. Each bell carries a blank tanzaku (a small strip of paper) meant for a word you choose yourself: something to hold, to work toward, or to wish for in the year ahead. A quiet invitation to pause and set a gentle intention.
Two models available:
Earthed : glazed outside only with a speckled wood-ash glaze
Tatami : unglazed and carved outside, glazed inside with a speckled wood-ash glaze
Slowmade in the UK
Fired in oxydation at 1200C
Even though the glaze is food safe, these bells are not intended for food, having a hole to let the cord through.
