TATAMI
Inspired by the quiet geometry and grounding presence of traditional Japanese flooring, this collection brings balance and clarity to the table. It's about stillness, structure, space to breathe. I hand carve each vessel with a serie of individual marks, not seeking perfection in the marking. Yet, each one contributes to a sense of harmony in the overall rhythm of the marking pattern. This balance between the irregular and the regular creates a tactile surface that invites touch, while fostering tranquillity and introspection. The Tatami line is made to be used - for tea, for food, for moment of pause. These are pieces that don't demand attention but offer presence. I see them as anchors for daily rituals. They carry space around them, just like a tatami room.
We don’t have any products to show here right now.
There are no Tatami pieces currently for sale on the webshop but there are some currently available through The Gallery in Maldon (UK).
All my products are handmade in my Greenwich garden studio. My glazes and slips are my own personal recipes. They are applied by either pouring, dipping or brushing. Movement is often added so that they cover the piece with various drips, transparencies and even cracks sometime. "Happy" accidents are welcomed and in my opinion, are inherent to handmade products.
Each piece is unique and when a piece is offered as a small batch or within a collection, small variations among the pieces of a same set are to be expected.
