Who is this guide for ?
What's inside the guide ?
Over the last couple of years, I've attended more than 30 ceramics fairs, craft fairs and markets, packed and unpacked countless boxes, survived long weekends, made wonderful connections and learned a fair few lessons along the way.

I've gathered those experiences into Behind the Stand, a practical guide for makers, potters and ceramic artists who are thinking of exhibiting their work for the first time, or who would like to approach their next fair with a little more confidence.

Although some of the advice is specific to ceramics, much of it will be just as relevant to makers working in other crafts.

From choosing the right event and preparing an application to curating your stock, designing your display, managing sales and evaluating the results, I've tried to cover the things I wish I'd known when I first started.
Alongside the practical advice, you'll find my personal Notes from the Studio, sharing some of the mistakes I've made, the solutions I've found and the small discoveries that have changed the way I approach fairs, and some checklists to print.
This guide isn't a formula for guaranteed sales. Every maker, every audience and every fair is different.
It's simply what I've learned from being on the other side of the stand, shared in the hope that it might make your own journey a little easier, and potentially avoid a bad experience.
