studio notes

Studio Notes is a quiet space where I share the philosophy, materials, and processes behind my one-of-a-kind handmade ceramics. It’s here to give you an insight into how the pottery is made in the studio, and the care and thought behind each piece of homeware and tableware.

The OOAK e-shop is updated 3/4 times a year.
My subscribers are invited to an early release and get first dibs on the new launch.
If that's somehting you'd like, you are welcome to join here.

I believe that as a potter, I have a duty to promote the concept of eco-herence, or coherent sustainability, through mindful practices and ecocaring working habits. As an example of those little gestures which can make a difference, since I started selling my pots online, I have tried to avoid plastic as a ceramic wrapping staple. I have embraced eco-friendly recyclable packaging materials, so don't be surprised if you receive your next order, wrapped in recycled papers and cardboard boxes. I make all my pottery glazes myself and don’t use ready-made commercial glazes. I love using plant ashes, kitchen waste as eggshells, and foraged clay. It’s a way to work with nature rather than against it. Wood-ashes from my log burner, calcinated eggshells or oyster shells, used coffee grounds and even banana peels can become key ingredients, reducing waste and giving my pieces a one-of-a-kind organic and earthy character. I also often incorporate local clays, gathered around my London home or during outdoor walks. After being cleaned, sieved, dried into a powder and finally rehydrated, the clay is ready to be used as an engobe to decorate my pots. This approach not only minimises my environmental footprint but also connects me more deeply to our Mother Earth. Each glaze is unique and unpredictable, perfectly imperfect and a true reflection of the wabi-sabi aesthetics I embrace in my work.
